I began to paint Marooned in 2016, and like many artists have done, I abandoned it when the next step in the process eluded me. I had the composition right, but I just wasn't able to see or paint what I originally envisioned, it was an uninspiring fog.
The next step finally came rushing to me on a particularly lonely night in January 2019. I finished this painting within a couple of hours and inside a fervor that gripped my heart without mercy.
This night scape illustrates a group of desert cacti facing upwards toward the moon. A formation of them huddles in a circle, chanting a sorrowful prayer in their prickly voices. The moon, Luna, hears them and leans inward to get a better view. Her looming face illuminates their gathering with her icy gaze.
